Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

In exchange for her life, Britt agrees to guide the men off the mountain. As they set off, Britt knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there... and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.

But nothing is as it seems in the mountains, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

Review:

I started this book thinking that I would get into the story fast as I enjoyed the Hush Hush series so much, but that didn't happen. It wasn't a total bad read, but from the beginning, I realized that Britt wasn't going to be one of my favourite main characters.

I will give her that; she did grow some "balls" throughout the book, but the whole time, she kept talking about Calvin this and Calvin that and I really wanted to snap her out of it because her ex-boyfriend is really an asshole. From the beginning, I hope she wiould get over him. I didn't care about what he apparently went through with his dad, he was still a jerk and she deserved better, but how she could only think about him.

So like I said, Britt might not be my #1 heroine, but whenever she didn't talk about Calvin, you could tell that she was smart even if she seemed to forget that too. She tried her best to postpone her death and Korbie's by pretending having more knowledge about the mountain than she really has. She used whatever she could to survive. So I give her credit for that; she still annoyed me a little bit, but she at least developped in the book making me like her a little more.

Then there's her best friend Korbie, Calvin's sister, who annoyed me so much that I wished she would just die seriously. She was so selfish and self-centered. Her attitude whenever she was there just made me want to punch her. Maybe that was her role in this, but I felt like she could have used some growing up like Britt did.

We are introduced to Mason in the beginning of the book when Britt confronts Calvin and pretends to have a boyfriend and Mason saves the day. He plays his role and leaves right after. When she sees him again, she is happy if only to see a somewhat familiar face but it changes quickly when Korbie and her are made hostage by him and his friend Shaun.

I won't deny that a lot happens in those mountains and it could have kept me captivated if I cared more about the characters which I didn't really.

Mason and Britt play cat and mouse most of the books. He's a fugitive but seems to want to help her, but she wants to hate him, but she is confused by the attraction she feels for him. She doesn't know what's real and what isn't. And that pretty much resume how she felt throughout the whole. She didn't seem to know who was right and wrong, who was evil and who wasn't.

So many secrets filled this book and that at some point, you just want to know for sure. I mean, some secrets are pretty easy to discover, but I will admit that I was hoping to be more surprised. I was hoping that some of these secrets would actually shock me, but it didn't.

When everything is out in the open, I felt like I missed something. I don't know what, but I just felt like some parts were rushed while others dragged on and were not necessary to the story.

Like I said, I wasn't in love with this book, but I didn't hate it either. I was just expecting something more captivating and I was let down.

Does this book make me want not to read more books by Becca Fitzpatrick? Not at all, this one was just not for me. I'm looking forward to see what else she has in store for us.
