Add on [goodreads]

War is only the beginning…

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book four in her Blood and Ash series.

From the desperation of golden crowns…

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal flesh…

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power rises…

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

Review

I have no words for this book. It was such a rollercoaster of feels throughout the whole book. I apologize in advance if my review does not make any sense.

Also, be sure to have read all of the other books before reading my review because it might contain spoilers from the previous books.

So the book continues more or less where the last book left us; Casteel imprisoned by Isbeth and Poppy trying to get him back. It was a hard to wait to see what was going to happen next because as much as Jen is all for Happily Ever Afters, we all know that what happens between the start and the end is fair game and she will for sure play with our feels throughout it.

This series is no exception to that and my god do you go through every possible feels. I honestly do not know where to start my review.

So let’s start with just how the bond between Poppy and Kieran grew throughout this book; the way they interacted and the way they anchor each other in Casteel’s absence. I really feel like that since the beginning, they always had a special bond even when they didn’t seem to really know it and I felt like that goes beyond the bond she has with the wolvens.

Poppy is just as fierce as before and she has so much more confidence in herself and she won’t back down from what she believes is right. Honestly, the way she held herself we sometimes we forget that she is young and that not long ago, she was sheltered and was mostly oblivious to the truth.

Having Casteel’s point of view was also just an added bonus to the story. I love being in Poppy’s mind, but I am not going to lie, I wanted to be in Casteel’s head too. I really felt it added to the story and it got us to feel just how intensely he felt about Poppy and all the thoughts and memories that could through his mind. In addition, I really felt like having both point of views just gave place to have more information thrown at us.

Poppy and Casteel. These two together are just almost perfect; they loved each other with something fierce and they are ready to do just about anything for one another.

And what can I say about the newest addition to this group… Reaver (or since the book A Shadow in the Ember in the Flesh and Fire series (aka ASITE), Reaver-Butt). I seriously love him. His banters with Kieran were quite entertaining and I loved just how nonchalant he seems to be most of the time.

So much is learned throughout this book and a lot is answered from things were wondered in the previous books. I swear, I felt like every other chapter, we learned something new and I loved it because sometimes I felt like it made some stuff from the previous books make more sense.

Overall, I loved that book. It kept me diving back in-between whenever I had a minute to be able to read. I once again highly recommend this book series. I can’t wait for the next books in this series and see where she’s going to make us go through next.

I was giving an advanced copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.

A Maiden…

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

A Duty…

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.

A Kingdom…

Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

Is Love Stronger Than Vengeance?

A Betrayal…

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

A Choice….

Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.

A Secret…

But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all. The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her dead. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her. Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.
