Is Love Stronger Than Vengeance?

A Betrayal…

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

A Choice….

Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.

A Secret…

But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all. The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her dead. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her. Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.

Here's a little bit about From Blood and Ash
Add on [goodreads]

Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.

A Maiden…

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

A Duty…

The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.

A Kingdom…

Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

Review:

OMG! OMG! When you look at the time it took me to read the book, it seems that it took me a long time, but honestly, I read ¾ of the book in a week (tried to stop myself from going too fast). Then I had to put it aside due to work and family activities and when I got back into it, I read it non-stop. Seriously, who needs beauty sleep?

I have no idea where to start this review because I am just so in love with this book and the Blood and Ash series and I feel like there are no words strong enough to express just how much I loved it. Just a fair warning, you might want to consider taking the day off because you might end up reading non-stop once you get your hands on it.

The second instalment in the Blood and Ash series starts where the first one ended and we are sucked right back into the world that Jennifer L. Armentrout created. We find Poppy trying to come to terms that everything she ever believed to be true her whole life were in fact lies. We see her struggle to trust Casteel fearing that he is not fully honest about his motive to marry her. She is not ready to go down without a fight though and that is just how we love her.

When you find yourself back into this world, you cannot help yourself; you want to go and read the next page, the next one, and the one after. Poppy and Casteel are still bickering and these scenes were among some of my favorites in this book. I really enjoyed the fact that as Poppy struggles to come to terms with what she knows to be the truth now or how she actually feels for Casteel, she is still willing to help others; still willing to sacrifice herself if it can help. She is such a strong character and I loved that she will not back down from an argument or say what the other wants her to say; she is her own person and she has her own beliefs. Casteel is a character that is still intriguing and has you read the book, you discover a few more façades of him and I really loved it.

There are so many other characters in this series that you will love, hate or will plain be confused about. I know I’m looking forward to the next book if only to find out if I’m to actually like some of these characters or not.

We get to discover more about Atlantians and their legends through this book and it added so much more to the story. Honestly, this fantasy world is such an amazing one to lose yourself into for a few hours.

This book has everything you can look for, you have secrets unveiled, you have battles, you have romance and you have so many questions that will make you want to have the next book in your hands. Once again, Jennifer L. Armentrout created a book series that will you keep you at the edge of your seat and will make you want to skip work so you can keep on reading.

So another 5-star read for this series and I cannot wait for the next book.

I was giving an advanced copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
