Quick Updates

I apologize that I haven't done anything lately on my blog besides Thursday: On My Wish List. I have read but I haven't gotten around to review because I really wanted to focus more on my reading for Apollycon, but I'll try to get back into my reviews in March :)

Also, this weekend is Apollycon and I'm really excited. I was hoping to fit all of my books in two small suitcases, but it wasn't doable so now I have a huge suitcase along with a small one. I'll have to find a way to juggle with those two over there.

So I'll try to have my recap of my experience at Apollycon this year with a lot of pictures if I can.

Stay tuned today for the next Thursday: On My Wish List and then, I'll be AWOL until Monday.

There should also be a new bookhaul next week. There should have been one this week, but I got caught up and forgot to do the posts.

So I'm leaving tonight to go to my sister's so me and Nancy can catch our plane tomorrow morning. Second time in my life that I'm going to take the plane and I'm excited/nervous.

So until next time, good reading. :)

Book 1 in the Everlife series

Summary
(from goodreads)

ONE CHOICE.

TWO REALMS.

NO SECOND CHANCE.

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she’ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she’s drawn to isn’t home to the boy she’s falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

Review: Before You by Jenna Bennett (Sex on the Beach, #3)

BWHB
Summary

(from goodreads)

It’s all fun and games

I had a simple plan for spring break.

Sun, sand, and a hot guy. Sex on the beach, with no strings attached.

A chance to get rid of this pesky virginity once and for all.

And when I met Tyler McKenna, I thought I had it made.

Until someone gets hurt

But then girls started turning up at Key West landmarks. Girls who looked like me, but with one crucial difference: They’d all been drugged and relieved of their virginity.

The virginity I still have. The virginity Ty refuses to take.

And now I’ve begun to wonder whether there isn’t more to him than meets the eye.

Suddenly, sex on the beach doesn’t sound so good anymore…

Review:

This third book in the Sex on the Beach series is written by Jenna Bennett and her writing merged perfectly with the two others, but I will admit that it wasn't my favourite story.

I liked the characters enough, but I wasn't rooting for them like I did with the two others. I felt like these two were more made to be friends than potential lovers.

The story is interesting though even if I had never expected that kind of storyline after reading the two previous books, but it was just something else and it shows how this spring break is really different for the three friends.

Cassie and Ty dance around each other the whole book and even if some stuff is explained towards the end, a lot is still left for us to wonder. Maybe that's why I didn't get into their potential romance like the others.

And for the ending, I wasn't such a big fan I will admit. I really felt like it left us with not much to hold on. I'm happy there is a second book to this because I really hope that I can actually fall for their romance. I'd like to believe that I am wrong and that there is more chemistry between them than what the first book.

But even if it's not my favourite book of the series, I still enjoyed it and I will read other books written by this author.

Book 2 in the Saints of Denver series

Summary
(from goodreads)

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes the second installment in the Saints of Denver series featuring a bad girl and a by the book attorney who could be her salvation...or her ruin.

Avett Walker and Quaid Jackson’s worlds have no reason to collide. Ever. Quaid is a high powered criminal attorney as slick as he is handsome. Avett is a pink-haired troublemaker with a bad attitude and a history of picking the wrong men.

When Avett lands in a sea of hot water because of one terrible mistake, the only person who can get her out of it is the insanely sexy lawyer. The last thing on earth she wants to do is rely on the no-nonsense attorney who thinks of her as nothing more than a nuisance. He literally has her fate in his hands. Yet there is something about him that makes her want to convince him to loosen his tie and have a little fun…with her.

Quaid never takes on clients like the impulsive young woman with a Technicolor dye job. She could stand to learn a hard lesson or two, but something about her guileless hazel eyes intrigues him. Still, he’s determined to keep their relationship strictly business. But doing so is becoming more impossible with each day he spends with her.

As they work side-by-side, they’ll have to figure out a way to get along and keep their hands off each other—because the chemistry between them is beyond charged.

About the author

JAY CROWNOVER   Being native Coloradan is a source of pride if you ask Jay.  She loves all the things her home has to offer, and that is why she set her books in this familiar place. Writing about what she knows is why her stories feature plenty of rock and roll and body modification.

Jay has been a bartender since she was in college, spending over forty hours a week watching interactions between men and women.  This 9 to 5 job offered great insights into relationships - how they start and how they evolve in a social setting.

This cutting-edge author likes to write New Adult novels because she remembers being in her early twenties and thinking she had it all figured out, only to be proven wrong time and time again.  When she looks back, she see's that those years defined who she is today, and, good or bad, those decisions ultimately set her current path.

About the author
[website] [goodreads]

Julie Kagawa, the New York Times bestselling author of the Iron Fey and Blood of Eden series was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos, and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish, and the odd eel.
When not swimming for her life, Julie immersed herself in books, often to the chagrin of her schoolteachers, who would find she hid novels behind her Math textbooks during class. Her love of reading led her to pen some very dark and gruesome stories, complete with colored illustrations, to shock her hapless teachers. The gory tales faded with time (okay, at least the illustrations did), but the passion for writing remained, long after she graduated and was supposed to get a
real job.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all time low. She lives with her husband, an obnoxious cat, an Australian Shepherd who is too smart for his own good, and a hyper-active Papillion.

Review: Beyond Me by Jennifer Probst (Sex on the Beach, #2)

BWHB
Summary

(from goodreads)

CAN FUN IN THE SUN TURN INTO LASTING LOVE?

Spring break in Key West with my besties was supposed to be casual fun. But I never expected to meet James Hunt. Sex and frolic? Yes! A relationship? No. But his hot blue eyes and confident manner drew me in. And when he let me see the man behind the mask, I fell hard, foolishly believing there could be a future for us. Of course I never considered our relationship might be based on lies…or that his betrayal could rock my foundation and make me question everything I believed in…

OR WILL A LIFE BUILT ON LIES RUIN EVERYTHING?

The moment I saw Quinn I knew I had to have her. She hooked me with her cool eyes and don’t touch me attitude. I had it all, money, social status, and looks. I could get any girl I wanted…until her. When my friends challenged me with a bet to get her into bed by the end of the week, I couldn’t pass it up. But sex wasn’t supposed to turn into love. She wasn’t supposed to change me, push me, and make me want more for myself. She wasn’t supposed to wreck me in all ways. And now, if I can’t turn my lies into truth, I just might lose her forever…

Review:

So the next book in the Sex on the Beach series was written by Jennifer Probst. I didn't know what to think when I first realized that it was three people writing this series with each their own books, but my doubts were quickly erased from the first few pages of this book.

If Jen McLaughlin and Jennifer Probst both write differently, the transition was done smoothly and I didn't feel like I was reading two books so out of the reach from one another if it makes sense.

So this book concentrates on one of Mackenzie's best friend, Quinn. I liked her from the first lines in Jen's book and Jennifer made me love her more. She had an attitude that I liked. She really the kind of girl you can easily relate to and I think that's why she's so far my favourite female character of the series so far.

James was something else. I really liked him even with the stupid bet in plan because you could tell that he cared about her, whether if he realized it or not as early as us readers. He looked so confident, but he was so vulnerable at the same time. Quinn really brought out the best out of him.

Both of them learned a few different lessons in this book that made them grown. So a fun week in the sun became just a little bit more for those two in more ways than one.

The story was short, but I really enjoyed this book. This is totally the book I would recommend to read on the beach one sunny afternoon and a nice cold drink to enjoy this.
