About the author

JAY CROWNOVER   Being native Coloradan is a source of pride if you ask Jay.  She loves all the things her home has to offer, and that is why she set her books in this familiar place. Writing about what she knows is why her stories feature plenty of rock and roll and body modification.

Jay has been a bartender since she was in college, spending over forty hours a week watching interactions between men and women.  This 9 to 5 job offered great insights into relationships - how they start and how they evolve in a social setting.

This cutting-edge author likes to write New Adult novels because she remembers being in her early twenties and thinking she had it all figured out, only to be proven wrong time and time again.  When she looks back, she see's that those years defined who she is today, and, good or bad, those decisions ultimately set her current path.

Review: Daughter of Deep Silence by Carrie Ryan

BWHB
Summary
(from goodreads)

I’m the daughter of murdered parents.
I’m the friend of a dead girl.
I’m the lover of my enemy.
And I will have my revenge.

In the wake of the devastating destruction of the luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace knows the terrifying truth, and she’ll stop at nothing to avenge the murders of everyone she held dear. Even if it means taking down the boy she loves and possibly losing herself in the process.

Sharp and incisive, Daughter of Deep Silence by bestselling author Carrie Ryan is a deliciously smart revenge thriller that examines perceptions of identity, love, and the lengths to which one girl is willing to go when she thinks she has nothing to lose.

Review:

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book as people's ratings went from good to bad, so I finally started it and I really liked it.

I gave it four stars, but my mind wandered between 3.5 and 4. I decided given that I love the author's writing style, I would give it a 4.

Carrie Ryan has a way to write about disasters that makes you want to read more and want to know how it will end and often, her endings leave you slightly on edge since there's always place to add more in the end and this book was no exception. I wouldn't want a whole other book because in my opinion it would serve no purpose, but I wouldn't mind knowing a bit more of what happened in the aftermath.

Frances is a character that is hard to identify with on many levels, but in others, you just can relate. She was a teenager when she lost everything and her whole world changed from being what she was used to, to becoming something different. Even if four years have passed since the tragedy, you can feel her inner battle to determine who she is actually while making sure she gets her revenge.

Her personality will either make you like her, pity her or hate her or all of them. Sometimes, I felt like she missed a lot of opportunities for help, wanting to control everything; wanting to be the one to make them pay; see them suffer. She could be selfish and she knew it too.

If sometimes, she couldn't grasp who she was or who she ought to be, she clearly understood that part of her that wanted revenge. She knew just how calculating she could be.

And yes, there is somewhat love in this, but even if it's the background, I felt like it felt hollow sometimes. A teenage love that she kept inside her until she is face to face with him again, but it feels like something is missing. I know when you're a teenager, you often believe that you are in love after a few days knowing someone, but four years has passed since she last saw him so I just feel there should have been something more to spark them again.

And the other characters whether they are good or bad didn't appeal to me as much; maybe because I felt we didn't know much about them or perhaps I'm just picky these days.

And I'm trying not to give too much even though a lot is known at the beginning of the book, but it's still a good read and I love Carrie's writing so I'll definitely pick her next book.

Review:

My friend Nancy has been telling me about this author and this series for a while now and she even lent me her book to read, but since it was autographed and I was seriously scared that I could ruin it somehow, so I gave it back and started to read it on the ebook.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book; it could have gone either way, but I quickly loved the author's writing style. She had a way to express herself in this book that made it such an easy read.

And the characters... What can I say about the character. I could relate with Elli on so many levels and I think that's why it was so easy to read. Her doubts and fears are ones so many of us feel that you can't help but to connect with her. That said, they were times I just wanted to knock some senses into her, but I get that people around can tell us we are wrong but until we truly believe it, it just won't go through.

The thing that hurt me the most was Elli's family... well a good part of her family who were just so mean. I never thought that I could hate characters as much as I hated them. I'm just thanking God that Elli had a few members of her family that she could count to love her and always be there for her.

And Shea was the kind of man who was probably portrayed a little too perfect for my taste; but who cares, we all wanted him anyways hahaha And I know some people have issues when it comes to a womanizer suddenly become infatuate with a girl, thinking it's like impossible, but I like to believe there's always that one person who will make us want to have more so why couldn't it happen?

And Shae's family is so united that no wonder whoever came in contact with them felt part of their group quickly. And he has a twin sister, Grace, and I liked how she described their bond, but I will admit from time to time, I felt she was more there for him than him for her.

And now about Elli and Shae. Their story had ups and downs and there were times I felt like it was going crazy fast and sometimes, not enough, but overall, the story was a great read and entertainning. You couldn't help wanting to read the next chapter to see what else could happen.

And of course was can I say about their friends? I loved them. I wished we would had more Jakob, but it seemed that his role was really more passive. He was there but not really if it makes sense and perhaps is was because of Harper, Elli's best friend, who was really loud and took most of the place hahaha

So will I read more books from Toni Aleo? Definitely. I can't wait to continue the series and read her other series. She has a new fan in me.

Review:

I love these novellas. Simon was always one of my favourite characters in the Mortal Instruments series and I just love getting to read more about him. Each novella brings us a new insight into the Shadowhunters' world.

I think that the fact that Simon was a mundane than a downworlder is really helpful for him to understand how nothing is always the same. Not all shadownhunters are the same, not all downworlders are the same and faeries aren't always what they seem.

There's evil everywhere, but there's also good and I think that Simon's path to become a Shadowhunter is going to show changes are needed in this world; for better or worse.

Simon is really a good guy and I love how he always try to be equal to everyone and I'm really excited for the next stories to come.

I just love that there are cameos from characters we love and I need to read about Alec and Simon talking; it needs to happen soon.

Review: Sweet Temptation by Wendy Higgins (The Sweet Trilogy, #4)

BWHB
Summary

(from goodreads)

This swoonworthy, romantic companion novel to Wendy Higgins's New York Times bestselling Sweet Evil series is told from irresistible bad-boy Kaidan's point of view. Readers will love getting inside Kaidan's head, especially fans of the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, the Selection series by Kiera Cass, and Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire.

When bad-boy drummer Kaidan Rowe encounters good girl Anna Whitt, the girl chosen to vanquish the demons from earth, he can't stop thinking about her. The Nephilim son of the Duke of Lust, Kaidan tries to help Anna embrace a life of sin, but she gradually helps him see that he's meant to do more with his life. Their relationship is as tortured as it is passionate, for Nephilim are forbidden to fall in love. But as hard as they may try to obey, Kai can't seem to stay away from Anna, nor Anna from Kai.

Full of chemistry and high-stakes drama, this companion book is darker, hotter, and completely satisfying.

Review:

I fell in love with Kaidan Rowe all over again with this book. I wouldn't advise to read this before you read the other 3 books because you might get confused because the author just goes through some big part of the other books quickly since she's really focusing on Kaidan's journey through the trilogy.

Reading from his perspective really helped us get to understand him more. I knew things weren't easy for him, but you really got to see just how hard it was for him. You learn a lot through him and reading his thoughts, his feelings was just heartbreaking sometimes. I won't lie sometimes I just thought he was an idiot and I wanted to slap him, but it always redeemed himself after that.

Reading about him and Anna brought me back to the first time I read the trilogy and I just couldn't wait to arrive to my favourite parts of their relationship.

And I missed reading about the other characters too. I liked to see them again and I won't lie, I would love to read more about them. Think Wendy could come up with some novellas for them? I'd like to know what happened to some of them.

So this is short, but seriously, if you get to read the trilogy, you have to read this one as well. I know some people don't nessarely enjoy reading the same story from the other main character's point of view, but this one is really worth it.

Wendy Higgins has brought us back to her world brillantly.
