The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel...

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up... and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman... one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

Review:

So I started this book intrigued about what we were going to find out about Gabe. He always seemed like the most likable brother, but you can tell there was something dark surrounding him too and you just want to know what it is.

The story begins a bit after where the first one ended. Nikki comes to work at the De Vincent’s mansion to help out her parents since her mom is sick. Though she didn’t particularly wanted to come back, she does it for her family. Seeing Gabe is not something she was really wanted. But Nikki has grown and even if she still has a big heart, she doesn’t let anyone step over her, least of all Gabe even if she’s still torn about him.

Gabe has a lot to deal with in this book and adding Nikki to the mix wasn’t something he expected. Seeing her again brought him back the last time they saw each other and he still holds some anger towards the situation. Gabe may be the “nicest” one, but he isn’t all that good and Nikki reminds me of that forcing him to deal with things he would prefer to forget.

But from the moment you realize what their past problems entailed, you know that it can only going to get worse or better; there was just no in-between for these two characters. They were going to go all in or just go different ways.

The attraction between the two of them is obvious even if Nikki is trying hard to reign it in as she doesn’t want to be hurt again and Gabe is trying to pass it off by being a lot meaner to her than her actually needs to.

Until several events keep bringing them together, Gabe offers a peace offering trying to regain the friendship they used to have. A friendship where the lines are soon blurred as they finally let go of their restrains.

But as they explore their new fragile territory, a lot is happening at the mansion and outside of it. Drama that seems to try to end them one way or another, either inner demons or outside threats, Nikki and Gabe will a lot of their plates in this book. Because there’s always something happening in this book and you will be hooked from chapter to chapter.

I know it’s REALLY vague, but so much I would like to tell you to make you to read this book, but I do not want to spoil this book for you because each time I wrote something in this review, I was trying hard not to spoil anything for you. But like always, Jennifer L. Armentrout knows how to keep guessing and wanting more.

But let’s just say you will learn a lot more about the brothers’ past and as more scandals about the family may be revealed, the tension in the house can be felt.

What else can I say? Well, you will meet Rosie in this book. She’s Nikki’s best friend and such an interesting character and I really liked her and I’m really looking forward to read more about her in the next book.

Now I just need Devlin’s book because I know that this book is probably going to be the one filled with a lot more mystery than the two previous brothers. There’s something about Devlin that drags you in and you just can’t shake off.

I was giving an advanced copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
