Review

There is a reason Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my favourite authors and she proved it again with this book because she knows how to keep us on our toes. What we thought we knew in the Origin series so far? Forget it; she always finds new twists to add to her series that will make you rethink all of the theories you could have established throughout her books.

The Brightest Night continues where The Burning Shadow ended. As Evie and Luc process with everything they have learned, the two of them and their friends are still trying to deal with the Daedalus and staying alive. As Evie and Luc insert themselves into this community of humans, hybrids, origins and Luxens, you get to see a few familiar faces from the past also.

Evie continues to grow in this book; she becomes more and more aware of whom she is and I feel like in this book, she is more open to it also. I really loved how she is starting to take control more too and not just going with the flow. She is such a badass character and I really feel this book brought it even more out of her.

Evie and Luc’s relationship is only getting stronger and even if they aren’t always seeing eye to eye on everything, one thing is clear; they will both do whatever it takes to protect one another. As they work on helping Evie getting control of her powers, they will both be aware she has to learn to trust herself more as much as Luc has to learn that he can’t always protect her from everything. But they are such couple goals because no matter what, they have each other’s back.

Truthfully, there is so much that happens in this book and in a short period of time too. I honestly had trouble putting down the book when I had to work or sleep because I needed to know what was going to happen next and I didn’t want to wait before finding out. From learning more about Evie’s powers to more bits of the past and why and how everything happens, you will be transported into a world where answers aren’t the ones you expected and new questions will demand more answers.

Trying to make this review spoiler free, I can only say that you won’t be able to just read a chapter or two. Be sure to keep in mind they are quite a few jaw-dropping moments in this book and I swear some of them I am still not over as of yet.

Jennifer has once again made a book where you just can’t get enough. Reading her books always get me out of my reading slumps.

My final verdict of this book is that it was one amazing read and I can’t wait for the next one. Actually, I really need it like yesterday because the ending of this book was mind blowing and I can’t even begin to imagine what she will do next. I really need to know.

I was giving an advanced copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Review: The Burning Shadow by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Origin, #2)

Here's a little bit about The Burning Shadow
Add on [goodreads]

When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux—only to discover that she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected.

Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past. There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is—and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous…and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her, or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.

#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with this steamy, shocking second installment of the Origin series that will leave readers reeling.

Review:

Wow… Wow… Wow*… I seriously don’t know just how much more I can take because this was really an awesome book, but let’s just say that it’s a not a walk through the park. The author is making sure we are hanging on to every word and will leave you demanding more.

Seriously, this book is going to get you through so many emotions and hit you in the feels at moments you didn’t expect. I seriously felt each emotions as if I was any of the characters. Just so you know, if you tend to connect with the characters’ emotions like I often do, you might want to find a way to no harm your book during your reading; just a friendly advice ;)

The story continues shortly after the events of the first book and though there are still quite a lot of unknowns for Evie about herself and in this book, she tries to mend who she was as Nadia and who she is now and it’s not easy. She struggles a lot through it, but she has Luc to help her with it. Sometimes he’s not that much of a help, but it really comes from the heart and you know he has good intentions.

Evie and Luc’s relationship is complex at best, but you can tell that they will always gravitate around one another no matter the doubts, the unknowns and the danger. Luc has never been silent about what he feels for Evie and it doesn’t matter that she doesn’t remember being Nadia; she will always be the one for him. Evie struggles a lot more to put into words what she feels and it will take her longer to accept that there is no way around it, but nonetheless, these two need each other.

In this book, so much is happening and I’m like… what can I say without giving spoilers but to make sure you do pick up this series because seriously, you won’t want to put it down (at least, not on your own lol). The coexistence between the humans and Luxen is really hanging by a tread and with many events happening in this book, you feel like it wouldn’t take much to sever it. Evie and her friends are trying to deal with that in their own city as humans at her school are now protesting more and more about how Luxen have no rights bringing more hatred each day in many students.

But when Evie discovers a disturbing detail about one of these protestors, it leads her and her friends to investigate it and stumble about some frightening discoveries.

Now we have to wait for a whole year and that is just plain evil from the author’s part because I need more answers, I need to know where it goes. I won’t lie; I’m not above stalking her to get my hands on the first pages on the next book hahaha

I was giving an advanced copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

*I’ve come to realize that I started my review for the Darkest Star in the same way lol

Review:

Wow... Wow... Wow... What more can I say about this book. First of all, I was just so thrilled to get sucked back into the Lux world. I always felt like there was something missing in this story and as I read this book, I realized what was missing was more of Luc.

Before I go on with my review, if you haven't read the Lux series, I must warn you there might be some spoilers from that series in my review and I highly recommend you start it now so you can plunge yourself into this book afterwards.

So the story is set four years after the Luxens tried to get control of the Earth and now they are learning to coexist for the most part. The book is told from Evie’s point of a view, a seventeen years old girl, who always played it on the safe side… except that night.

Following her friends to a club where she shouldn’t even able to get into, she meets Luc, a guy that caught her interest from the moment her eyes landed on him. From that moment, nothing in her life is average… From the raid in the club to the moment she keeps meeting with Luc, nothing in her life will be the same.

We met Luc in the Lux series and he was always an intriguing character. When he was there, the focus was always on him and this book is no different. Luc will suck you in with the way he talks, acts and the way is simply is. His interest with Evie will bring them both down a path that neither of them can come back from.

Luc and Evie are two strong characters that connect even if she doesn’t want to admit it. Throughout the book, you see how their paths keep bumping together for better or worse; she always finds herself going back to him.

Old characters from the Lux series make appearances in this book and I’m really hoping will get to see more of them throughout the series too.

But each character in this book, big or small, all had an impact into making this book what it is and that’s an amazing read. I hated it when I had to stop reading to do things like going to work.

From the first few chapters to the end, this book brings you entertainment and so many new questions and thoughts about this world. There isn’t one moment of dullness in this book as there is always something going on.

This book is a MUST READ! It has everything to keep you hook from the first line to the last. Luc and Evie are two characters that just made the story flow effortlessly; you just want to keep following them throughout this book and wonder what the next one will bring.

So am I looking forward to the next book? DEFINITELY! Do it I need it like now? Like DUH! I’ll wait, but it will be hard to do.
